HERB DHALIWAL SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE AWARD
The Award
The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance (CAIA) has created the Herb Dhaliwal Sustainable Aquaculture Award to recognize industrial performance combined with excellence in care for the environment within the aquaculture industry.
The award will be presented to an individual or corporation active in the Canadian aquaculture industry that has demonstrated a progressive approach or technological innovation in the area of sustainable aquaculture.
A Selection Committee, comprised of representatives of the aquaculture industry, the science and research community and the federal and provincial departments responsible for aquaculture, will choose the award recipient from candidates nominated according to the following criteria:
1. Nominees must be an individual or corporation actively involved in Canada’s aquaculture industry. For these purposes, the aquaculture industry includes those who farm aquatic plants and animals and the individuals and companies that provide goods and services to them.
2. Nominees must subscribe to CAIA’s philosophy of generating wealth from the aquatic environment under conditions of environmental responsibility and sustainability and demonstrate positive contributions to the development and/or promotion of sustainable aquatic farming.
3. Nominees must be able to demonstrate either technological innovation or a progressive approach in the area of sustainable aquaculture that has been recognized by the industry as such. For the purpose of these criteria, sustainable aquaculture includes:

Benign or positive impacts on the environment

Husbandry practices that contribute to productivity without

Environment
Degredation
-
Production of safe, wholesome food

Adherence to fish health codes
4. The nomination must be supported by a member of the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance. |
